I think it is not possible to think peop...@Charles

I think it is not possible to think people are somewhere near what you described. The sheep mentality still prevails and is observable anywhere in the world. Mental models are good for themselves, but can not save you from the bad decision making done under a heavy influence of the society. To make a long story short, I think it is much better to use them for selling than for buying.

If you look at Vancouver housing market you can see this type of behaviour. People in Vancouver had previous knowledge of the crisis from the US and Europe, and yet they continued to invest into the housing market. Now, with the prices dropping, we can expect the panic to take its toll and make the situation even worse. There is no model right now that could save condo owners from loosing lot of money for nothing.JBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7366878066073177705.post-35768510283018239752013-01-25T16:56:19.958+00:002013-01-25T16:56:19.958+00:00Right you are if you think you are, except when yo...Right you are if you think you are, except when you're not.

Mental models are adaptive, and hence extend with more experience. Like learning to go through different kinds of doors, more examples confirm the initially identified features instead of contradicting them. Mastery of a particular model tends to embed the user that model.

An adaptive response to this is to have multiple mental models – each with their own criteria of application. This model of models approach is a higher level skill. Charles Faulknerhttp://www.influentialcommunications.comnoreply@blogger.com
